First time

All right, signed up for this blog thing back in July 07 I think and haven't bothered or just too scared to actually write anything. Anyway decided I might give it a crack and use it as a sort of training diary. Currently into week three of a 20 week program for the Gold Coast Marathon. Will be my first marathon if I can get there on July 7.

This week has me programmed for a "speed" session Tues, 40 min run Wed, "Speed" session Friday and a 2 hr run on Sunday.

Well I added an extra 12.3k run Tuesday morning. Did this in 1.08.40 at 5..35 min/k. Really happy with that. Rather ambitiously backed up for the "speed session" in the evening. 2k warm up then the 6 x 500m at 60 sec stationary rest. Really pleased with this as I did the repeats in 2.18. 2.14,2.15,2.17,2.18 and 2.14. Only managed a 1k warm down after the days efforts.

Wasn't going to do the planned 40 min run today as I was a bit sore in the right calf/hamstring. Anyway after a few stretches I got going and did 7.7k in 44.26 @5.46 min/k. Once again really happy with that after yesterdays effort.

Bit of background. I have been running on and off for the last 25 years but got going again back in April last year when the weight got into the triple figures. Anyway nearly twelve month son and after some hard earned lessons about doing too much too soon and structuring the training I'm starting to see some rewards. Over the last three weeks since starting the GC program I have ran the best I have in about the last ten years.
